For Veldhoven and around

Ten minutes: shorter than one side of a tape

Side A · unamplified

People used to measure distance in tapes: Eindhoven to Veldhoven did not even reach the end of side A. That still holds. We are there in ten minutes.

We played a wedding party there, in a marquee. In a living room or with a small group we play unamplified: wood, strings and three voices, nothing more is needed. Everyone is close enough to hear what is happening, and close enough to simply keep talking if they prefer.

When it gets bigger

Same line-up, roomier sound

Side B · amplified

If it becomes a hall or a terrace with a hundred people, two modest speakers are added. The line-up does not change, only the carry: enough to include the back row, not so much that the front row has to move away.

Because we are so close by, we can make that choice late as well. If things go differently than planned, we adapt instead of you adapting your programme.

Questions about a performance in Veldhoven

Can’t find your question? Call or WhatsApp Theo on +31 6 55 33 58 54.

How far is Veldhoven for you?

Ten minutes, shorter than one side of a tape. That saves more than travel time: we are ready well in advance and can pack up calmly afterwards.

Can you play unamplified?

For a smaller company, or in a room with a low ceiling, we play the way the instruments sound: wood, voices and a cajón, without speakers. If the room grows, we add two modest speakers.

Some of our guests do not speak Dutch. Is that a problem?

No. Almost the entire repertoire is in English, and we announce in English when the company calls for it. There is a reason this page exists in English too.

Does a full marquee sound different from an empty one?

Considerably. During the soundcheck a marquee is empty and everything sounds spacious; once a hundred and fifty guests are standing in it, coats, dresses and bodies swallow the sound. That is why we often start unamplified and only bring in the two speakers once the marquee is full. Beyond that we only need a dry, level spot and one power point.

Do you play at company parties and anniversaries?

Yes. A reception in a company canteen or atrium works well for us: we need little space and one socket, and the volume stays low enough for conversations to continue.
