Tea towels wedged in the windows, everything wound down, the music drifting out of the car into the verge. The Kempen is still a region where the party moves outdoors as soon as the weather allows.
We played a wedding reception there, and outdoors music does not need to be loud — it only needs to be close. We play quietly under an awning or in a corner of the garden: soft enough for the conversations at the picnic table to carry on, and soft enough that you still hear the birds through it.
