A clubhouse is a hard box full of soft memories

Side A · after the match

In Someren we played at a hockey club party. Acoustically a clubhouse is not a hall but a box: a low ceiling, a smooth floor, glass on the pitch side. Everything bounces in there, so it takes very little to do too much.

Early in the evening people come in wearing their club jackets and mostly want to talk the match over. Music belongs underneath that: recognisable enough to have an opinion about, soft enough to order at the bar without shouting.

A club party does not tip over slowly, but in a single song

Side B · the party

At a club it works differently from a wedding. There is no dessert to give the signal: there is one song that gets a whole team on its feet at once, and after that the clubhouse is full. We do not have to reset anything for that.

More body can come in then, but in a clubhouse that becomes too much sooner than it would in a hall. At the bar a group always stays put who mainly want to catch up, and a club has a finishing time and usually neighbours. Whatever the committee agrees about that is our starting point.

A clubhouse where the first team and the parents of the juniors are singing the same song.

Frequently asked questions · Someren

Questions from club committees

Can’t find your question? Call or WhatsApp Theo on +31 6 55 33 58 54.

Do you fit in a clubhouse?

Yes, we need 1.5 × 2.5 metres and one socket. A corner by the bar or in front of the window is enough; no standing tables have to go out and no stage has to be built.

Is an acoustic band not too tame for a club party?

Not really. The cajón does the work of a full drum kit and three voices carry far enough to take a clubhouse with them. The difference from an amplified band is mainly that you can still hold a conversation at the bar.

Can you work around a finishing time?

Yes, and at a club that is often the most important thing. Tell us what time it has to be quiet and what volume has been agreed with the council or the neighbourhood, and we will play within it.

Do you play at other clubs nearby as well?

Yes. Someren, Asten, Deurne and Helmond are all within our half hour from Eindhoven. A clubhouse makes a fine venue for us: small enough for little amplification, big enough for a party.
