A Sunday afternoon is not a party, and that asks for something else

Side A · the first round

Sunday afternoon in a bar in Bladel: a few regulars at the bar, someone with the newspaper, and at a table by the window a group that stayed on after a walk. Us in the corner next to the tap, with no stage and no announcement.

An afternoon like that asks for restraint. Whoever came for the music will move closer of their own accord. Whoever came for the bar should simply be able to finish their conversation. The volume belongs below that conversation, not above it.

Towards five o’clock

A bar changes by itself, and we change with it

Side B · once it gets busier

As the afternoon goes on more people arrive. The tables fill up, the talking gets louder, and the first person to sing along is usually standing at the bar. More body can come in then: the same songs, a little more movement.

Even then it stays a choice. If a group at a table keeps talking, we do not push on until they cannot hear each other any more. A bar is not a venue: people also come there to stay seated.

An afternoon that slips into an evening without anyone having had to organise a thing.

Frequently asked questions · Bladel

Questions from bar owners

Can’t find your question? Call or WhatsApp Theo on +31 6 55 33 58 54.

Does the bar need a stage?

No. 1.5 × 2.5 metres is enough, roughly that corner by the tap that stands empty anyway. No table has to go out of the door and no bench has to be moved.

What does the landlord need to arrange?

One socket nearby. Nothing else: we bring our own light amplification and are set up, and gone again, in fifteen minutes.

How many sets do you play in an afternoon?

We play several sets with breaks in between. How long and how often depends on the afternoon: a bar asks for something different from a private party.

Do you play on weekdays too?

That is possible, by arrangement. Just ask about the date you have in mind and we will see whether we are free.
