For organisers

Like the car radio: alongside, not in front

Side A · the first guests

On the long drive south the cassette player was always on, yet nobody had to shout to be heard. That is how a reception starts too.

A reception is about talking to each other. We lay the floor under that: acoustic, low in volume, with no announcements or moments where everyone has to turn around. Whoever wants to talk can talk; whoever wants to listen takes a step closer.

Once the room is full

More voices, so more body

Side B · singing along

A full room swallows sound. Where we play almost unamplified in the first hour, two modest speakers join later — not to be louder, but to stay audible above fifty conversations.

The principle stays the same as in the first hour: the conversation is the main event and the music moves with it. Only the circumstances change, so the setting changes along.

And then what it was all about happens: someone stops mid-sentence because they know this song, and finishes the line.

Frequently asked questions · receptions

What organisers want to know

Can’t find your question? Call or WhatsApp Theo on +31 6 55 33 58 54.

Can guests keep talking over the music?

That is where we start. We play acoustically, with light amplification where needed, and keep the volume below the conversation. Anyone who wants to listen steps a little closer; anyone who wants to catch up does not have to raise their voice.

Can you stop for a speech or a toast?

Of course. Give us a sign, or agree a time for the speeches in advance, and we will play around them. After the applause we pick up where we left off.

How long do you play at a reception?

We play several sets with breaks in between. How long and how often depends on the programme: a two-hour reception asks for something different from an afternoon that turns into a party.

Our venue is an office or showroom with a lot of glass. Does that work?

That is exactly where acoustic works in your favour. Wood, voices and a cajón echo far less than a full drum kit and an amplified band. Together we pick a spot in the room where the sound does not bounce off the walls.

A reception coming up?

Tell us what time it starts, how many guests you expect and where it is. Then we will think along about the set-up.
