A cassette did not care whether you played it in the car or on the stereo in the living room. It simply played. With us it works the same way.
In Geldrop we played a fiftieth birthday: in the pub on the corner or at someone’s home we play in one and a half by two and a half metres, without a stage and without amplification. Whoever wants to listen hears the strings; whoever wants to catch up does not have to raise their voice.
In the large hall
Geldrop and Mierlo also have halls for two hundred people. There it is not the line-up that changes but the setting: two speakers added and playing a little firmer, so the back row is included too.
The benchmark stays the same, large or small: the volume should fit the room, not the room the volume.

Yes. 1.5 × 2.5 metres is all we need, and in a living room we often play without speakers. The cajón replaces the drum kit, so there is no half a rock band wedged between the sofa and the dining table.
That is what the two modest speakers are for. More space asks for more carrying power, not a different repertoire: the same three voices, a little more body. The volume should fit the room, not the room the volume.
