Music at a barbecue belongs behind the food

Side A · during the barbecue

At a beer festival with a barbecue the music is not the main act, and that is not an insult but a fact. People queue up, get a beer, find a standing table and start a conversation. In Reusel we played for exactly that audience.

So we play underneath it: recognisable enough to hum along to, soft enough to order a drink without shouting. Whoever stays by the stage hears a full performance; whoever stands at the tap hears an atmosphere.

Once the barbecue is out

Then a field full of separate groups becomes one audience

Side B · once the company settles in

Once the food is gone something changes. People are no longer queuing but standing together, the tables drift towards the stage and people start singing along without anyone giving a signal. More body can come in then.

Even on an outdoor site the volume stays a choice. There is always a group at the edge who mainly want to catch up, and there is almost always someone living next to the field. Whatever the organisers agree about volume and finishing time is our starting point.

From background at the barbecue to singing along at the tap, without anything having to be reset.

Frequently asked questions · Reusel-De Mierden

Questions about outdoor events

Can’t find your question? Call or WhatsApp Theo on +31 6 55 33 58 54.

What do you need on an outdoor site?

A dry, level spot of 1.5 × 2.5 metres and a power point nearby. A tent, an awning or a canopy is not a luxury but practical: wooden acoustic instruments prefer to stay dry.

Can you play several slots?

Yes. With sets and breaks in between we can fill an afternoon or an evening. At an event with food it often works well to place the slots around the serving.

How loud are you allowed to play?

Whatever the organisers or the council agree, we keep to. Tell us what limit applies and what time it has to be quiet, and we will play within it. Better a little softer than an event that gets shut down early.

Do you play at village fairs or street markets too?

Yes. We have played at an outdoor festival in Eersel before, and it works the same way: fifteen minutes to set up, play, and fifteen minutes later the stage is free for the next act.
