For anniversaries in Son en Breugel

Fifty years married, and the repertoire comes from those same years

Side A · coffee and congratulations

At a golden wedding you do not have to explain the repertoire. The songs we play were on the tapes this company recorded themselves, off the car radio or from the record. In Son en Breugel we watched people stop halfway through a sentence because they recognised an intro.

During the day, over coffee and congratulations, we play softly. People come in who have not seen each other for years and mostly want to talk. Anyone who wants to listen in between only has to pull their chair a little closer.

Later in the day

When the grandchildren turn out to know the words too

Side B · everyone joins in

Somewhere in the afternoon something funny happens. The grandchildren know the songs too: from the radio, from a film, or simply because they once sat in the back of the car. What began as music for the couple becomes music for the whole family.

More body can come in then, but not without looking around. In a company of three generations there is always someone for whom loud sound is tiring, and they want to be part of it just as much. So the volume stays a choice, even with a full floor.

A party where the youngest and the oldest guest sing the same song, each for their own reasons.

Frequently asked questions · Son en Breugel

Questions about an anniversary in Son en Breugel

Can’t find your question? Call or WhatsApp Theo on +31 6 55 33 58 54.

Do you play during the day as well?

Yes. Many anniversaries are an afternoon affair with coffee, cake and a reception, and our line-up suits that well. An afternoon performance simply asks for a lower volume than an evening; nothing else changes.

Can we request the song from their wedding day?

Do ask, preferably a few weeks in advance. We will see whether it works with three voices, guitar, bass and cajón. If it does not, we will say so honestly and look together for a song from the same year that does.

Will it not be too loud for the older guests?

We watch for that. Acoustic is the basis and we only use amplification where it is needed. If we notice that part of the company is struggling to hear each other, the volume comes down, even in the middle of a set.

Do you fit in a village hall or a small function room?

Comfortably. We need 1.5 × 2.5 metres and one socket, and we are set up in fifteen minutes. In a small room we often play with little or no amplification.
