For listeners in Oirschot

For guests who know the originals

Side A · for those who listen

The birthday guest in Oirschot was someone who knows the records: not just the choruses, but which song was on which side. Playing for a company like that is fun and nerve-racking at once, because they hear it straight away when an arrangement is not right.

That is why we take the songs seriously. Three voices, guitar, acoustic bass and cajón are not a thin imitation of the original but a version of our own. And the volume is part of that: soft enough to make out the words and not drown the singing along.

Later in the evening

Knowing your records usually ends in singing along

Side B · for those who sing along

Somewhere in the evening it tips over. The guest who first stood frowning at the bass is, half an hour later, the first to sing the words at full volume. Connoisseurs are, in the end, simply people who love the songs.

More body can come in then, but here too louder is not automatically better. People who know the songs well also want to hear them well: if the amplification drowns out the singing, there is nothing left to enjoy.

A repertoire that connoisseurs take seriously and everyone else simply sings along to.

Questions about how we play

Can’t find your question? Call or WhatsApp Theo on +31 6 55 33 58 54.

Can we request songs?

Yes, preferably a few weeks in advance. We will see whether the song works with three voices, guitar, bass and cajón. If it does not suit that line-up we will say so honestly rather than turn it into a half version.

What does a Top2000 song sound like acoustically?

Different, and that is the point. Without a drum kit and without electric guitars, what remains is what the song rests on: the melody, the words and the singing together. The cajón does the work of a full drum kit without flattening a room.

Do you play less obvious songs too?

Our setlist is a selection of what we play and it keeps changing: old and new songs keep being added. If you have something in mind that is not on it, do ask.

Do you fit in a small room as well?

1.5 × 2.5 metres and one socket. In a living room or a small bar we often play with little or no amplification, precisely because that stays closest to the instrument.
