There is a fair chance the songs at your wedding are the same ones that played in the back of the holiday car. The tapes your parents compiled are the repertoire two generations sing along to.
On a day like that one guest wants to catch up with family they have not seen for a year, while another wants to sit and listen quietly. Both should be possible. During the ceremony and dinner we therefore play softly: acoustic, with light amplification where needed, never over the conversation.
Later in the evening
Once dessert is gone and the tables move aside, we turn the tape over. No change of band, no break to reset: the same three musicians, the same repertoire, a different dynamic.
Even then the volume stays a choice, not a reflex. We read the room: if people are dancing, more body can come in; if part of the company keeps talking at the standing tables, we leave room for that conversation.
By the end of the evening you have a mixed crowd on the floor: the generation that recorded the tapes and the generation that listened along from the back seat.

Yes. It is the same three musicians from the first chord to the last song, so there is no change of band and no reset break for the room to empty out. During the ceremony and dinner we play softly; later in the evening we turn the tape over. Which moments you would like music for is something we agree beforehand.
We can: acoustically and softly, so the spoken word always comes first. As you walk in, while you sign and as you walk out. Let us know in advance which song belongs to which moment and we will prepare it.
Do ask, preferably a few weeks in advance. We will see whether the song works with three voices, a guitar, a bass and a cajón. If it does not suit that line-up we will say so honestly and look for something that does.
Yes, as long as there is a dry, level spot to stand on and a socket nearby for the light amplification. If the weather turns we move inside: we only need 1.5 × 2.5 metres and are set up again within fifteen minutes.
