Side A · the afternoon slot

At a small festival in Eersel we were on the bill among other acts. For an organiser what counts most is how quickly a band gets on and off the stage. For us that is fifteen minutes, in both directions: three instruments, two modest speakers, done.

During the day a stage like that plays to an audience that comes and goes. People with a beer, children at the front, and at the edge of the field a conversation simply carrying on. That calls for a volume that fills the field without driving that edge away.

A bigger crowd asks for more carrying power, not a different repertoire

Side B · the evening slot

As the evening goes on the field fills up and the audience moves forward. The amplification goes up with it: outdoors sound carries less far, so more can come in outside than it would indoors.

Even then louder is not automatically better. A village fair in the Kempen is not a stadium stage: the volume should fill the field, not the village. Whatever the organisers or the council agree on that is our starting point.

How much changeover time do you need?

Fifteen minutes to set up and fifteen to break down. We have no drum kit to stack and no backline to wheel in: three acoustic instruments, two modest speakers and a few cables.

What do you need technically?

One power point near the stage. We bring our own light amplification. If there is already a PA with someone behind it, we will plug into that just as happily.

Can you play several slots in one day?

Yes. With sets and breaks in between we can fill an afternoon or an evening. How many slots and how long we agree with the programme for the day.

What happens if it rains?

Under a canopy or a marquee we simply carry on. Without a roof we do not: wooden acoustic instruments prefer to stay dry. A tent or an awning by the stage solves that.
